Michael jackson live memorial coverage

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

The public mourning of Michael Jackson may be done, but the saga that was his personal life is far from over.

Nothing made that more clear than the one surprise of Tuesday's memorial service, watched by millions around the world: the emotional speech by Jackson's 11-year-old daughter, Paris-Michael.

"Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father I could imagine," she said, dissolving into tears and turning into the arms of her aunt Janet. "I just want to say I love him so much."

Custody of Jackson's three children is one of the biggest legal issues still unresolved. In his 2002 will, Jackson made his wishes clear — his three children should remain under the care of his mother, Katherine.

Debbie Rowe, the biological mother of Paris and her 12-year-old brother, Prince Michael, has indicated she may seek custody. The surrogate mother of Jackson's youngest child, 7-year-old Prince Michael II, is unknown. A custody hearing was scheduled for Monday.

As the world paused to remember Jackson, authorities released his death certificate, which did not list a cause of death. The official determination will likely wait until toxicology results are completed, which could be weeks away.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Jackson's brain, or at least part of it, was still being held by investigators and would be returned to the family for interment once neuropathology tests were completed.

Investigators have honed in on drugs that were administered to the insomniac Jackson. The powerful sedative Diprivan, which is usually administered by anesthesiologists in hospitals, was found in his home, according to a law enforcement official.

Jackson's final resting place was another unknown. Permission is needed to bury him at his former home, Neverland Ranch.

A private memorial was held at a cemetery in the Hollywood Hills that is the resting place of many stars, but it does not appear Jackson will be buried among them.

Dual Saw as Seen on TV

The Dual Saw “As Seen on TV” with Billy Mays aired on PITCHMEN back in April. Billy Mays’ Dual Saw pitch is looked back at tonight as fans prepare to say goodbye, his funeral set for Friday.

In April, LALATE covered for you the PITCHMEN episode of the Dual Saw. And who would know that a saw of all things and its pitch became a massive hit among readers this week. It’s because of the love fans have for Mays.

Dual Saw inventor Frederic Sciamma appeared on the episode to discuss the project and the inspiration behind Dual Saw.

The King of Pop is dead: Michael Jackson passes away - aged 50

Thursday, June 25, 2009

jacko 02

Singer Michael Jackson died last night after collapsing at his home in Los Angeles.

The singer stopped breathing and suffered a massive cardiac arrest, although the exact circumstances of his death are unknown.

Paramedics failed to revive the 50 year-old and he was taken to hospital in a coma where he was pronounced dead.

His mother, brothers including Jermaine, Tito and Randy and sisters Janet and LaToya, had raced to be at his bedside.

Police said that an emergency call was made from the house at 12.21pm local time [8.21pm uk] today and paramedics raced to the scene.

Jackson, who has three young children, was seen being taken into an ambulance by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and moved to the UCLA Medical Centre, according to celebrity website TMZ.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the star was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home.

When emergency staff arrived, they were forced to begin resuscitation procedures immediately.

Ten bodyguards followed the ambulance to hospital where the star was rushed into the emergency room on a stretcher.

Doctors again tried to revive him, but attempts failed.

Jermaine Jackson told reporters that medical staff had tried to resuscitate his brother for an hour after he collapsed at his home.

"His personal physician, who was with him at the time, attempted to resuscitate my brother, as did the paramedics who transported him to the UCLA," he said.

"On arrival at 1.14pm (local time) a team of doctors including emergency physicians and cardiologists attempted to resuscitate him for one hour but they were unsuccessful."

Jackson's mother and brothers raced from the family home nearby to be at his bedside.

His sister, La Toya, was seen running into the hospital sobbing.

A source close to his family said tonight: 'It's so tragic but he was such a wreck physically that all the signs were there.'

His ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley said that she was
'heartbroken' for his children.

'I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible. Words fail
me,' she said in a statement.

His sister La Toya was spotted running in the UCLA Medical Centre sobbing shortly after he was pronounced dead.

Katherine Jackson, Michael's mother, arrived at UCLA hospital to be with the rest of the family shortly after 3pm.

Jackson's longtime publicist Michael Levine said he wasn't surprised by the news.

He said: "As someone who served as Michael Jackson's publicist during the 1st child molestation incident, I must confess I am not surprised by today's tragic news. "Michael has been on an impossibly difficult and often self-destructive journey for years. His talent was unquestionable but so too was his discomfort with the norms of the world.'

Jackson had apparently been 'doped up to his eyes' for several weeks with anti-pain prescriptions including Vicodin.

The source, who asked not to be named, said: 'He has pain in his back and that is the reason for the drugs, but it is obvious that the painkillers have taken over his life.'

He added: 'His family is telling him to ditch the medications and get on with the tour.'

Another family friend said that his ex-wife Debbie Rowe is expected to receive initial custody of the children while long term arrangements are sorted.

Another family source said he had become increasingly withdrawn over recent weeks, leaning on his mother Katherine for support as his health deteriorated.

RTÉ.ie Entertainment: Susan Boyle - performed in Glasgow

Susan Boyle was met with rapturous applause last night as she took to the stage in front of a home crowd.

There had been doubts as to whether the singer from West Lothian would perform in the 'Britain's Got Talent' live show in Glasgow last night after pulling out of the event in Manchester.

But the church worker wowed the crowds as she belted out 'I Dreamed a Dream', the song which made her a worldwide star.

Scots fans will be hoping Boyle can repeat her dazzling performance when the show reaches the Edinburgh Playhouse tonight.

Not only did she receive a standing ovation at the end of the Glasgow gig, the packed hall took to their feet as she walked on to stage in a floor-length sparkling dress and twice during her performance, which included 'Memory' from the musical Cats.

Many fans were waving home-made banners, some said "We love you Susan" and "Susan is the best".

On Sunday as concert-goers at the Manchester Evening News Arena were greeted at the venue with notices stating that Boyle would not perform at either of the scheduled matinee or evening shows.

The singer canceled Manchester apperances, but returned to the stage in to deliver a stellar performance in her native land at Glasgow Glasgow SECC (Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre).

The Susan Boyle Glasgow performance included ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ from Les Miserables and Memory from Cats, the two songs she sang in the BGT final and semi-final. Word went out via various news outlets, including the BBC (Boyle ‘will sing’ at Glasgow show) which reported that the singer would perform.

Many have tried to prognosticate the singer’s continued participation in the tour, and speculation on her mental and physical state continues. The senior member of Diversity dance troupe, Ian McNaughton, spoke highly of her during a prior stop in Birmingham.

The article goes on to further speculate as to whether or not Susan Boyle will perform and/or record a duet with her longtime idol, Elaine Paige.

It was roughly two months ago that the 48-year-old singer from Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland went from obscurity to a meteoric rise to international fame as the viral video of her Britain’s Got Talent audition has become one of the most viewed videos in history on YouTube. It is now a part of pop culture, the remarkable story of her rise to fame as an everywoman confronting the skepticism of an audience of judges, Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden and then memorizing them and ultimately the world. The original Susan Boyle BGT audition video can be seen here: Susan Boyle Video (Britain’s Got Talent))

The Britain’s Got Talent Tour includes appearances from all BGT finalists: Diversity dance troupe (the 2009 winners), Julian Smith (third place finisher), Shaheen Jafargholi, Aidan Davis, Stavros Flatley, Hollie Steel, Shaun Smith, Flawless, 2 Grand as well as last year’s Britain’s Got Talent winner, dancer George Sampson. The Susan Boyle performances in on Birmingham and Sheffield drew a standing ovation from an enthusiastic audience according to the Birmingham Mail.

Adam Lambert of American Idol: Is Gay?

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Adam Lambert is this year?s chosen ?American Idol? contestant

As promised, Adam Lambert is clearing up all the speculation about his sexuality in the new issue of Rolling Stone.

"I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay," Lambert tells the magazine. "I've been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man."

While Lambert is proud of his sexuality – "I embrace it," he says. "It's just another part of me" – he's focused on his career. "I'm trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader."

Lambert, who says he was worried about coming out on American Idol because it would be "so
sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing," admits to having a crush on his roommate and Idol winner Kris Allen.

"I was like, 'Oh, s–, they put me with the cute guy,' "Lambert recalls of bunking in the Idol mansion with Allen. "Distracting! He's the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type – except that he has a wife. I mean, he's open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100 percent straight."

As for the photos of Lambert dressed in drag and kissing other men that popped up online shortly after he made a splash on Idol, he says they're not really representative of who he is. "I've only dressed in drag three or four times," he says. "That's not me."

And while he's been spotted out with close friend Drake LaBry, Lambert says he didn't mind the attention he got during Idol from screaming female fans. "I loved it this season when the girls went crazy for me," Lambert admits. "As far as I'm concerned, it's all hot."

Kris Allen is The New American Idol Season 8

Thursday, May 21, 2009

AP
"American Idol" winner Kris Allen performs during the finale on May 20.

Kris Allen's smooth vocals and boy-next-door image propelled him to "American Idol" victory Wednesday, turning the theatrical powerhouse Adam Lambert into the most unlikely of also-rans.

"I'm sorry, I don't even know what to feel right now. This is crazy," said a stunned Allen, 23, of Conway, Ark.

As host Ryan Seacrest said in announcing the result of the viewer vote, "The underdog, the dark horse, comes back and wins the nation over."

Lambert's commanding vocal range and stage presence _ and the judges' adoration of him _ at times turned "Idol" into "The Adam Lambert Show," with the other contestants mere guests. But it turned out that "Idol" viewers could embrace a gifted performer like Lambert, one who sported black nail polish and bold self-assurance, only to a point.

Simon Cowell tipped his hat to both contestants Wednesday.

"To both of you, and I don't normally mean this, I thought you were both brilliant. .... The future's all yours," the judge said.

Before the results were announced, Lambert and Allen had a moment of musical camaraderie: They joined together with Queen on the rock anthem "We Are the Champions."

"Adam did win. So did Kris. Nobody lost tonight. These are two champions," said Paul Stanley from Kiss backstage.

Best TV Shows on DVD 2009

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Best TV Show #1: The Office

This simple but entertaining storyline featuring Steve Carell as the branch manager of a dull paper company has become the most popular sitcom and certainly one of the best television shows on the air. The humor is relevant and often outrageous

Best TV Show #2: Lost

This popular and addictive show follows a group of people with unknowingly intertwined lives who have survived a plane crash on a mystical island where unnatural things keep happening. Every episode of Lost ends in a cliffhanger, so you'll want to keep watching episode after episode on the DVD.

Best TV Show #3: House, M.D.

The main character, Dr. House, is essentially Sherlock Holmes in a hospital with an attitude. His sidekick's name, Wilson, was even meant to sound like Watson. House and his team of residents spend every episode solving a different bizarre medical mystery. If the unusual twists in every case don't keep you glued to the TV, then House's unrestrained sarcasm and biting humor might.

Best TV Show #4: 30 Rock

Tina Fey must have a giant shelf of Emmys in her office from this show. 30 Rock is a critically acclaimed comedy full of her own witty, self-deprecating humor and loosely based on her own experiences as the head writer for Saturday Night Live. Alec Baldwin, who plays her studio executive boss, is silly and laugh-out-loud funny in what has become his best TV role ever.

Best TV Show #5: 24

Good news. Kiefer Sutherland is finally out of jail and back to making episodes of the cult series 24. Every season represents a single day in special agent Jack Bauer's life, and every episode represents one action-packed hour in which he tries to resolve a national crisis. It's sort of like the Bourne Identity in a television show, and you will be sucked in episode after episode until you've finished an entire season of 24.

Hot New TV Shows for 2009

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Since we are on a trend spotting extravaganza we might as well check out what’s going to be hot on the box in 2009. Which series will be the next Greys? Keep an eye out for these new shows…

Castle
If you like comedic crime series such as Bones then be sure to keep a watchful eye out for this series. It follows Nick Castle, a novelist famous for writing brilliant mysteries. However he is bored with his life and his success – until a real murderer starts staging scenes from his novels. Throw in his ‘Broadway diva’ mother, his hilarious teenage daughter and his crazy ex-wife and you’ve got all the crucial ingredients for a great comedy.
Cupid
This is definitely one for the girls. Trevor, otherwise known as Cupid, is sent to earth to play match-maker. Throughout his travels he meets Dr. Claire Allen, a famous psychologist and self-help author who questions whether or not Trevor really is Cupid. It sounds a little bit cliché – but when it comes to romance, cliché often gets a big thumbs up!
The Unusuals
Here we have another comedic crime series. It follows the life of Casey Schraeger (a cop in the New York police precinct) and her crazy day to day adventures in the job. She is the newest cop there but quickly learns about her colleagues ‘dirty little secrets’. Sounds interesting!
Better Off Ted
This is an office comedy about Ted who is a man in love with his job – but who is also a man heavily concerned with morals. And unfortunately for him, his job at Veridian Technologies often opposes his moral concerns. You’ll find it hilarious if you love satire.
Single with Parents
Lou is single, in her mid-thirties, childless and therefore should be relatively independent and stress-free – if her parents didn’t rely on her so much! This comedy is about her fight to avoid her overly reliant divorced parents in an attempt to regain control over her life.
The Cleveland Show
If you love Family Guy then keep an eye out for this spin-off series. If follows the life of Cleveland Brown who was once in love with a girl called Donna. He made the mistake of telling Donna he’d be there for her if a man ever did her wrong, and many years later a man did her wrong! So Donna comes running back to Cleveland, along with her two kids. Sounds hilarious and is set to premiere in the states mid-2009, so let the countdown begin!
My Own Worst Enemy
This is a thriller dubbed to be the best spy show since Alias. It is about Edward and Henry, who are, confusingly enough, the same people. Henry is the father, husband and efficiency expert whilst Edward is trained to kill. Sounds like a TV show both you and the boy can enjoy.
The Ex-List
I cannot wait to see this comedy as it sounds absolutely hilarious – and also slightly believable! Bella is a smart, successful business woman in her mid-thirties whose life is going great…that is, until she goes and sees a psychic who tells her she has already met her ‘true love’. So off Bella goes to track down every guy she has ever dated in a desperate attempt to find her soul mate.
