The PTC cited the Sept. 25 premiere of Survivor: Gabon, in which a race for immunity included the brief reveal. “The image was not obscured in any way,” the group said. But it was also difficult to see unless a viewer was looking very closely, according to a clip of the show posted online.
“CBS’ decision to hide behind excuses that the incident was ‘fleeting’ and didn’t generate an immediate flood of complaints is the epitome of irresponsibly. The number of ‘fleeting’ penises we expect to see on broadcast television is zero,” the PTC said.
The Good:
Audiences will be delighted by CBS’ decision to broadcast Survivor in High Definition this season. Mark Burnett and his team took full advantage of the upgraded technology by providing breathtaking views of the lush Gabon landscape. From the opening sequence featuring hippos, elephants, and wild hogs to the desolate shots of Exile Island, one could easily mistake this mass marketed reality program with a lost episode of Planet Earth. In addition, viewers with HDTVs will feel heightened tension during Immunity & Reward Challenges, as the blood, sweat, and tears of the participants radiate onscreen.
